The present Patna-II commissionerate came into existence on 1st July, 2017 by subsuming the three erstwhile Central Excise and Service tax commissionerate viz., Patna-II-1, Patna-II-2 and Dhanbad Commissionerate. This Commissionerate covers 21 Districts out of the total 24 Districts of the Jharkhand State. Areas wise it covers roughly around 3/4th area of the state. There are 10 divisions and 58 ranges in the commissionerate. Out of these ten divisions, three divisions and 18 ranges are under Dhanbad Sub-Commissionerate.
